  • [28.06.2010] We will meet on Friday, July 23, 2010 at 10am in room 1020 N for your project assignment. Please reserve at least 3 hours since we will familiarize you with our Vicon motion capture system. Note: this meeting is mandatory. Absence will lead to 0 points in this assignment.

Synopsis

Digital image and video technology has become part of our everyday life. Digital cameras, camcorders, and capable mobile phones as well as digital home theaters and audio/video distribution systems are commonplace. In this course you will learn and apply the basic technologies and techniques that lie beyond this development.

Organization

We will begin with simple topics like image filtering and manipulation and will move to more advanced topics like face detection and parallel processing. In this first phase of the course small programming assignments are handed out each weak. After that groups of students are each given one class project that deals with current research to be finished by the end of the semester. Each group will have to present their results.

Prerequisites

  • The lecture "Multimedia Grundlagen" or "Multimedia Grundlagen I" is a prerequisite. Programming will be in C and or C++ (you decide), therefore at least a basic knowledge of C/C++ is mandatory.
  • Concerning different PO's:
    • General note: Prerequisite is that students did not attend the former courses "Multimedia-Praktikum" and "Video Signal Processing" at the Multimedia Computing chair.
    • Students studying under the old Master's PO can attend the course even if they successfully completed the "Multimedia Praktikum" in their Bachelor's degree.
    • Students studying under the new Master's PO cannot attend the course.
    • Students studying under any Bachelor's PO and lack the "Multimedia Praktikum" can attend the course.
    • Students studying under any Bachelor's PO and already successfully completed the "Multimedia Praktikum" cannot attend the course.
